An IBKR Advanced Charts Alternative That Uses Your Own TWS Data

If IBKR's built-in charts keep getting in your way, MyLinedChart charts the same data straight from your own TWS or IB Gateway session on your computer. Your levels, notes and indicators stay on the chart, they export as files, and the AI you already use can read and draw on them. IBKR was the first broker MyLinedChart was built for. IBKR stays your broker, and MyLinedChart sits beside TWS.

Plenty of IBKR customers like the broker and dislike the charts. The usual complaints are screens that reset, drawings that are hard to keep track of, and no clean way to get your marked-up chart out of TWS. MyLinedChart is a charting app that reads your own IBKR data from TWS or IB Gateway on your computer and gives you a chart built for marking, saving and reviewing levels.

What You Keep and What Changes

You keep your IBKR account, your market data subscriptions and TWS for placing orders. What changes is where you look at charts. MyLinedChart opens a chart from the same data your TWS session already has, so the prices match what you see at IBKR.

Your drawings stay with each symbol and timeframe. Lines, zones, notes and indicator settings come back the next time you open the chart, and you can export all of them at once.

How the Connection Works

Install MyLinedChart for Mac or Windows from mylinedchart.com. Start TWS or IB Gateway and log in as usual. In MyLinedChart, open Data Providers and choose IBKR: TWS / IB Gateway. The app finds the running session on your computer by itself.

TWS must allow API connections (Global Configuration, API, Settings, Enable ActiveX and Socket Clients). IBKR also needs the Market Data API acknowledgement signed, a Level 1 subscription for the market you chart, and at least USD 500 in the account. Paper accounts need market data shared from the live account.

Historical Bars and IBKR's Limits

IBKR caps how much history one request can return and how many requests you can make in ten minutes. MyLinedChart splits long ranges into requests IBKR accepts and spaces them out, so a year of hourly bars arrives without tripping IBKR's pacing rules.

Very small bars over long ranges take several requests, so they load in stages.

AI on Your IBKR Chart

MyLinedChart has a direct connection for AI apps. Claude, Codex, Cursor or GitHub Copilot can read the symbol, the visible bars, your levels and your indicators, and add their own levels and notes to the chart for you to keep or delete.

The AI cannot trade. MyLinedChart never sends an order to IBKR, and neither can anything connected to it.

Who This Fits

This fits traders who plan in charts and execute in TWS: swing traders marking weekly levels, day traders keeping a premarket map, and anyone who reviews trades later and wants the chart they traded from.

If you trade from the chart with one-click orders, keep doing that in TWS. MyLinedChart covers planning and review.

FAQ

Does MyLinedChart replace TWS?

No. TWS stays where you place orders. MyLinedChart charts the data from your TWS or IB Gateway session and never trades.

Do I need IBKR OAuth?

No. IBKR grants OAuth only to advisors, brokers, prop groups, funds and vendors. Individuals connect through TWS or IB Gateway with the Mac or Windows app.

Does it work on iPhone?

The iPhone and Android apps cannot reach TWS on your computer. On a phone, choose another data provider such as Alpaca or Schwab, or use the desktop app for IBKR.
