See Your IBKR Positions as Chart Lines

With TWS or IB Gateway connected through the MyLinedChart Connector, every open position now draws a dashed line at its average entry price directly on that symbol's chart, labeled like "Long 2 @ 38,450". Futures entry price is IBKR's avgCost divided by the contract multiplier, so it reads in the same price units as the chart. The lines are display only, not drawings, so they cannot be moved, deleted or exported, and can be hidden from Chart Settings if you would rather not see them. MyLinedChart never places, modifies or cancels an order; this is a read-only view of a position that already exists in TWS.

Checking whether a chart's current price is above or below your entry used to mean switching to TWS and reading a table. With the Connector, that same average price now sits on the chart itself, at the level where it actually happened.

What Shows Up and Where

Every open position IBKR reports through TWS or IB Gateway draws one dashed horizontal line on that position's own chart, at its average entry price. The label follows the position, for example "Long 2 @ 38,450" for a two-lot long, or a short position's own equivalent.

Nothing appears on a symbol you do not hold. The line is tied to the position, not the chart, so it only shows up on the chart for the symbol it belongs to.

Why Futures Divide by the Multiplier

IBKR's own avgCost field for a futures position is denominated per contract, not per point, so it is not directly comparable to the price scale a chart uses. MyLinedChart divides avgCost by the contract's multiplier before drawing the line, so a line at 38,450 on an index future actually sits at 38,450 on the chart's own price axis, not at IBKR's raw cost number.

Stock and ETF positions need no such conversion; avgCost already matches the share price the chart already shows.

Display Only, Not a Drawing

An open position line looks like a level on the chart, but it behaves differently from one you draw yourself. It cannot be moved, deleted, or included in a drawing export, because it is not a drawing at all, it is a live reflection of what IBKR currently reports.

That also means it disappears on its own once the position closes; there is nothing to clean up afterward.

If you would rather not see it, Chart Settings has a "Show Open Position Lines" toggle that hides them across the board.

This is a read-only view. MyLinedChart never places, modifies or cancels an order; the position itself is managed entirely in TWS or IB Gateway.

Setup

This needs TWS or IB Gateway connected through the MyLinedChart Connector, which is a direct download, not something the store editions include. Get it from Download MyLinedChart for Mac or Windows.

If IBKR is not connected yet, IBKR Chart Workflow for Cleaner Data Routines covers TWS and IB Gateway setup end to end. Once connected, open position lines appear automatically on any symbol you hold; there is no separate switch to turn them on.

FAQ

Can I move, delete or export an open position line?

No. It is not a drawing, it is a live reflection of a position IBKR reports, so it cannot be edited or included in a drawing export the way a manual trend line can.

Why does a futures position's line not match IBKR's avgCost number exactly?

IBKR's avgCost for a futures position is per contract. MyLinedChart divides it by the contract's multiplier so the line lands on the same price scale the chart already uses.

Do store editions of MyLinedChart show open position lines?

No. This needs TWS or IB Gateway connected through the MyLinedChart Connector, which is only available as a direct Mac or Windows download, not through the store editions.

Can MyLinedChart place, change or cancel an order from this feature?

No. It only displays a position that already exists in TWS or IB Gateway. Every order stays managed there.
