GitHub Copilot in VS Code can read your trading chart once MyLinedChart is connected. Copilot then sees the symbol, timeframe, candles, your levels and your indicators with exact numbers, and can propose drawings you approve. MyLinedChart offers a one-click install and a config file entry.

Before you start

You need VS Code with GitHub Copilot signed in, MyLinedChart open on the same computer, and Node.js for the connector.

One-click setup, step by step

  • Open MyLinedChart and click AI in the chart toolbar. If the AI panel shows a chat instead of the setup, click AI settings.
  • Under Use the AI app you already have, the connect cards are listed. If an AI app is already connected, the cards are folded away: click Connect another AI app to show them.
  • On the VS Code / GitHub Copilot card, click Add to VS Code. Your browser opens a vscode.dev page that hands off to VS Code.
  • Allow the browser to open VS Code, then click Install on the MyLinedChart server page in VS Code.
  • Open Copilot Chat and switch to Agent mode.
  • Open the tools picker and check that the mylinedchart tools are ticked.
  • Back in MyLinedChart, the AI panel shows a green dot and AI connected with the app's name once the connection is live. If the dot stays red, quit and reopen the AI app with MyLinedChart running.

Config file setup, step by step

  • In the AI panel, find the VS Code: config file card and click Copy.
  • In your project, open or create .vscode/mcp.json.
  • Paste the entry. If the file already has servers, add mylinedchart inside the existing servers block.
  • Save. VS Code shows a Start control above the entry; click it, or reload the window.

Why the file uses servers

VS Code reads a top-level servers block. Claude, Cursor and most other apps use mcpServers. Pasting the wrong shape gives a file VS Code parses and then ignores, so copy the VS Code card rather than the generic one. More detail: VS Code MCP Config: Use servers Instead of mcpServers.

The command in the card is built for your computer. When MyLinedChart ships its own copy of the connector, the command runs node with the path to that copy, so the connector updates whenever the app does. Otherwise it runs npx -y @mylinedchart/mcp-chart-context. Both need Node.js installed. Copy the card's text rather than retyping it.

What to ask Copilot

  • Read my chart and describe the setup in natural language.
  • List every level I have drawn on this symbol with its exact price.
  • Draw yesterday's high and low and label them.
  • Turn the level at the top of the range into a written trading rule with an entry and an invalidation.

Limits

Every chart change Copilot proposes waits for your approval in MyLinedChart. MyLinedChart never places, modifies or cancels an order; account access is read-only.

FAQ

Where do I ask Copilot about my chart?

In Copilot Chat in agent mode, with the mylinedchart tools ticked in the tools picker.

I pasted the config and nothing happened. Why?

Check the top-level name is servers, not mcpServers, and that the file is .vscode/mcp.json inside the open folder.

Can Copilot trade through MyLinedChart?

No. Orders are read-only and no tool can place, change or cancel one.
