Codex is good at turning an idea into code, and it does better work when it can see the exact levels on your chart instead of a screenshot. MyLinedChart gives Codex a direct connection to the chart you have open. Setup is one command from the app, pasted into your terminal.

Before you start

You need MyLinedChart installed and open, Codex installed and signed in, and Node.js, which the connector runs on.

Connect Codex, step by step

  • Open MyLinedChart and click AI in the chart toolbar. If the AI panel shows a chat instead of the setup, click AI settings.
  • Under Use the AI app you already have, the connect cards are listed. If an AI app is already connected, the cards are folded away: click Connect another AI app to show them.
  • Find the Codex card (Paste in your terminal) and click Copy. The command starts with codex mcp add mylinedchart --.
  • Paste the command into your terminal and press Return.
  • Run codex mcp list and check that mylinedchart appears.
  • Start a new Codex session with MyLinedChart open.
  • Back in MyLinedChart, the AI panel shows a green dot and AI connected with the app's name once the connection is live. If the dot stays red, quit and reopen the AI app with MyLinedChart running.

What the command contains

The command in the card is built for your computer. When MyLinedChart ships its own copy of the connector, the command runs node with the path to that copy, so the connector updates whenever the app does. Otherwise it runs npx -y @mylinedchart/mcp-chart-context. Both need Node.js installed. Copy the card's text rather than retyping it.

If you prefer editing files, the same entry can live in ~/.codex/config.toml under [mcp_servers.mylinedchart] with the same command and arguments.

Prompts that suit Codex

Codex shines when it reads the chart first and then writes code from real numbers.

  • Read my chart and describe the setup in natural language.
  • List every level I have drawn on this symbol with its exact price.
  • Draw yesterday's high and low and label them.
  • Turn the level at the top of the range into a written trading rule with an entry and an invalidation.
  • Write that rule as a condition in the language this project uses.

Limits

Every chart change Codex proposes waits for your approval in MyLinedChart. MyLinedChart never places, modifies or cancels an order; account access is read-only. Review and test any code Codex writes before it goes near a live account.

FAQ

Does the Codex app use the same connection as the Codex CLI?

Yes. Both read ~/.codex/config.toml, so one codex mcp add covers them.

Codex says the app is not running. What do I do?

Open MyLinedChart and ask again. The connector talks only to the app on your computer.

Can Codex place trades through MyLinedChart?

No. Order access is read-only and there is no tool for placing, changing or cancelling an order.
